Detailed Overview of the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2024-25

 The CM of West Bengal took an initiative to support students financially to continue their education. It was started in 2006 in the honor of the great Indian leader and philosopher Swami Vivekananda. It is a merit based scholarship. SVMCM, also known as Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship program, which is provided to the students at different level. The students of Polytechnic education, Medical and Madrasa are also eligible to apply according to the eligibility criteria.

Scope and Features of the scheme

The SVMCM scheme is a significant initiative aimed to support students across various educational stages and disciplines. Here are some key points outlining the scope and features of the scholarship.

  • The scholarship is designed for students enrolled in regular classes from class XI, XII to undergraduate in Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Medical, Technical field and similar disciplines. This scholarship is also available for Postgraduate students pursuing their studies in MPhil and PhD courses at state-aided institutions.
  • This scholarship is for students having low income. So the limit for income is INR 250,000/- per year. So this scholarship is for economically disadvantaged students. 
  • Application process is very simple. You will just click and continue to complete your application. The applications are submitted online. However hardcopy will be submitted in your college.  
  • Exclusively, the beneficiaries of scholarship will not avail any other stipend for the same educational level. However they will not be disqualified from the scheme if they receive one time grant from any other source.
  • Female students, who are Kanyashree (K3) recipients and pursuing Postgraduate courses in Arts, Science or Commerce, are eligible if they have obtained 45% marks in Undergraduate courses. 
  • Scholarships are awarded on Merit cum Means basis, reflecting both academic performance and financial need. The direct beneficiary transfer system streamlines the funding process, ensuring timely and efficient disbursement of scholarship amount.

SVMCM 4.0 Scholarship Details 2024-25

The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means (4.0) scholarship is an opportunity for minority students in West Bengal who are studying in higher classes. The students studying on Secondary level, Higher Secondary level, college students and polytechnic students are also eligible to apply for this scholarship. 

The Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and research level students can also apply for this scholarship provider if they meet the criteria developed by the department. This opportunity is also available for females through the Kanyashree (K3) scheme studying in regular courses to empower women. The entire process of registration, application, eligibility criteria and merit is transparent. The students can get a scholarship only fulfilling the criteria. The amount of scholarship paid to the students is from ₹ 12,000 to ₹ 96,000 per year. The scholarship is paid directly to the students through bank transactions. This amount will be credited in the bank account provided by the students at the time of submission of application.

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means is the full form of this scholarship. 

The students who got 60% marks in the last qualifying exam for Undergraduate and 53% for Postgraduate level, are eligible to apply for this scholarship. 

You are not eligible to apply for more than one in the same scholarship. It is clearly mentioned in the eligibility criteria that you are not eligible if you are receiving any other scholarship. 

The last date to apply for the scholarship is not announced till yet, but the Starting Date for 2nd phase is November 20, 2024. You must have to apply before the closing date.

The general criteria is 60% marks in the last qualifying exam. However in some cases, the students having 53% and 55% marks, are also eligible to apply. The detailed overview is mentioned in the eligibility criteria section.

The students who are only residents of West Bengal studying in any state college or university are eligible for this scholarship. They must have a domicile of the state. However, there are many other opportunities for the students outside West Bengal.
